Paraffin Inhibitor Ball
Description
PARAFFIN INHIBITOR BALLS are water soluble spheres containing a combination of water soluble hardeners and a special oil soluble crystal modifier. These ingredients contribute to an effective inhibiting process on certain ranges of molecular weight paraffins. PARAFFIN INHIBITOR BALLS are not designed to remove existing paraffin deposits but can soften these deposits and often make conventional paraffin cutting operations easier and faster.
Application
PARAFFIN INHIBITOR BALLS are primarily used to prevent paraffin deposition in crude oil production systems. PARAFFIN INHIBITOR BALLS inhibit paraffin by the crystal modification method. This method keeps paraffin particles from sticking together. PARAFFIN INHIBITOR BALLS are effective on certain ranges of molecular weight paraffins. Testing the balls for effectiveness can be done by simply trying the balls in the field or by testing the crude oil in the laboratory. To be effective, the inhibitor must be in solution in the oil before paraffin precipitation starts to occur. On produced oil tank applications, the PARAFFIN INHIBITOR BALLS would be dropped through the hatch. The ball will fall to the bottom and dissolve in the water bottom releasing the paraffin inhibitor to migrate up to the oil. As tanks are rolled, the inhibitor is blended with the produced oil.
TREATMENT DETERMINATION
The number of PARAFFIN INHIBITOR BALLS is based on the volume of crude oil to be treated. Laboratory tests indicate that periodic treatments of 50 PPM can help control paraffin deposition. A treatment of 50 PPM would require approximately 0.37 lbs of PARIFFIN INHIBOTOR BALLS per 24 BBL (1,000 gallons) of crude oil produced. Each PARAFFIN INHIBITOR BALL weighs slightly over 1 lb. so a standard application would be 1 ball per 72 BBL (3,024 gallons)
